Merle Borges Ramírez es Ingeniera Bioquímico Ambiental de la Universidad Autónoma de Campeche, Maestra en Manejo de la Zona Costero Marina del Instituto de EPOMEX y Doctora en Ciencias de ECOSUR. Ha trabajado la presencia y distribución de microplásticos y metales pesados en el ambiente. Los compartimentos ambientales de interés son los sedimentos, organismos silvestres, por otra parte, genera conocimiento de cómo los residuos de estos contaminantes pueden afectar la vida silvestre a través de índices de riesgos ecológicos. Ha realizado estudios de microplásticos y contaminantes en sedimentos del Golfo de México. De los organismos que se han empleado para la determinación de microplasticos es el pulpo rojo y peces de consumo de la región de Campeche.
